We are excited to announce that we are expanding our Family and Community Support (FACS) programming in Western Pennsylvania!
Fostering Connection & Community
In a state where 61,000 people are incarcerated on any given day – a 400% increase since 1980 – the impact of incarceration extends far beyond the individual. Families are separated, financial stability is shaken, and emotional burdens grow. Our FACS programming works to bridge these gaps by fostering connections that create safer prison environments, support successful reintegration, and reduce harm to communities.
What This Expansion Means for Western PA
In the coming months the Prison Society will be:
- Launching mentoring programs at the Allegheny County Jail and two nearby prisons in the next year—proven models that have already shown success in Philadelphia.
- Strengthening support networks for people returning to the Pittsburgh region from incarceration, to help them navigate housing, employment, and community reintegration.
- Expanding our partnerships with the amazing network of Pittsburgh-area organizations to offer better resources for families impacted by incarceration.
- Building a team of Pittsburgh-based mentors to support and guide individuals through the reentry process.
This is an exciting moment of growth and impact and your support makes this work possible.
